Duomo
Revered for its beauty, Florence s Duomo is considered the holy centerpiece of Florence. The red-tiled, sloping dome was created by artist Filippo Brunelleschi, who won a public competition to design it. To this day, the Duomo remains a great achievement of architecture and design.

Santa Croce Basilica
Situated east of the Duomo on the Piazza Santa Croce is the Basilica di Santa Croce (the Basilica of the Holy Cross). The principal Franciscan church of Florence, the basilica is best known for its Florentine artwork and housing the tombs of Galileo, Machiavelli and Michaelangelo.
