Formerly known as Bombay, Mumbai, located in the Western region of the India, is the largest and richest city in the country and is its commercial and entertainment centre. Not only are important financial institutions such as the Bombay Stock Exchange located here, but Mumbai is also home to Bollywood, India's Hindi film and television industry.

Gateway of India

Located in South Mumbai, the Gateway of India is an iconic landmark and would have been the first monument people arriving by boat would see in earlier times. The arch is built in Muslim style and the decorations are in Hindu style.

Elephanta Caves

Just off the coast of Mumbai is Elephanta Island, where you can visit a network of sculpted caves. There are two groups of caves, the larger one consisting of Hindu caves and the smaller one Buddhist caves. The main cave was a Hindu place of worship and was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Prince of Wales Museum

Now known as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya, this museum houses many artifacts from ancient India as well as foreign lands. It is best known for its ivory statuettes and Mughal paintings.
