Wurzburg

The city of Wurzburg is located on the river Main. It was founded in the 10th century and was the center of the kingdom known as Franconia. In the 19th century, Napoleon merged Franconia with Bavaria, by which the city is ruled to this day. Although most of the historic buildings were destroyed during the war, much of the city has been rebuilt.

Wurzburg

Old Main Bridge (Alte Mainbrucke)

This rebuilt bridge is adorned with statues of well-known saints and rulers. It is an arched bridge made of stone and is comprised of eight sections.

Wurzburger Residenz

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, this magnificent palace is most known for its grand staircase. The fresco above the staircase is reputed to be the largest in the world. The W├╝rzburger Residenz gardens are in the baroque style near the residence but changes to an English garden further away.
