Postojna

Postojna lies on the Pivka River and is a small town but attracts many visitors who want to see the Postojna Caves, a karst cave system. Settled in the 13th century, it became a town in 1909 and was under Italian rule from 1918 to 1943.

Postojna Caves The Postojna Caves are a system of galleries, chambers, and corridors that go on for miles. There is a train that takes you into the cave and through several chambers before visitors get off to do their walking tour.
Predjama Castle The Predjama Castle is located in the mouth of a karst cave and it looks like it s growing out of the cave. This impressive castle was home to the legendary medieval knight Erazem Predjamski who was besieged in this castle for several months for tax evasion. Visitors can tour the castle as well as the caves below it.

Postojna Caves
