Yangtze River Cruise

The old Chinese saying, "If you haven’t travelled up the mighty Yangtze, you haven’t been anywhere," perfectly describes this river’s range of spectacular landscapes. From its origin in the Tibetan Plateau, Asia’s third longest river sweeps past some 4,000 miles of lush green valleys, mist-shrouded mountains and the majestic Three Gorges. For over two centuries, the Yangtze has served as a vital commercial highway and is considered to be the cradle of ancient Chinese civilization. Today, this divine river continues to captivate visitors with its awe-inspiring beauty and strength.

Yangtze River Cruise

Shennong Stream

Experience one of the tributaries of the Yangtze River up close and personal on a wooden boat as the water becomes clear and shallow upstream. Enjoy the stream s own impressive gorge.

A fascinating river town, this “Ghost City” of Fengdu is complete with demon and ghoul-decorated sites, which depict the ancient Chinese peoples vision of Hell.

Three Gorges Dam

Another must-see during the Yangtze Cruise trip is the Three Gorges Dam, a controversial project over which many debates have raged on concerning its environmental impact. However, the sheer size of the dam makes it the largest project of its kind in the world and the grand spectacle of it attests to the advances of modern technology and man s willpower. The Three Gorges Dam will be completed in 2009 and will forever change the outlook of the Yangtze River. Built for flood control, electricity generation, navigation, and irrigation, the Three Gorges Dam is the largest water conservancy project ever undertaken.

Located on the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, the mountain city of Chongqing is famous for its fiery-hot cuisine. It is also the nation s largest and most populous municipality and home to the Chongqing Zoo, which contains over 230 species of rare animals including the adorable panda.

Yichang is the closest major city close to the Three Gorges Dam and the economic and cultural center of the western Hubei Province. Stop by the Three Visitors Cave to see poetry engraved in stones.

Known as the “loveliest mountain in China,” Huangshan,“Yellow Mountain” is famed throughout history for its stunning granite rocks and peaks enveloped by a sea of clouds. Throughout the years, it has had a vast influence on traditional Chinese landscape painting.

Nanjing is the capital of the Jiangsu Province and ten dynasties in China s history. Highlights of this charming city include the Sun Yat-Sen Memorial, built to commemorate a man considered the “Father of the Republic of China,” and a Qing Dynasty style bazaar surrounding a Confucian Temple.

Three Gorges

Carved along the Yangtze River, the Three Gorges consist of the Qutang Gorge, Wu Gorge, and Xiling Gorge. Qutang Gorge is the shortest and narrowest of the three, but it offers the most visually dramatic views. Wu Gorge is known for its serene beauty with forest covered mountains and sheer cliffs as well as its 12 unique peaks. Xiling Gorge is the longest and deepest of the three gorges with natural landscapes and historical landmarks. The Three Gorges are the most traveled tourist spots on the Yangtze River.

Daning River Lesser Gorges

In addition to the Three Gorges, you will also have the chance to explore the smaller gorges with lush foliage coloring the water to an emerald hue and wild monkeys resting near the water banks. In addition, you will also get to see a 2000 year old coffin suspended on a precipice high up on the cliff.
