Day 1   |  USA-Beijing 

Our adventure through the fascinating land of China and the Yangtze River begins as we board our international flight to Beijing.

Day 2   |  Arrive-Beijing 

Arrive in the nation s capital and greet our Ritz Tours guide in the arrivals hall. Transfer to the striking Sofitel Wanda, Sofitel s flagship hotel in Asia Pacific. Enjoy the plush surroundings and rest up for tomorrow s sightseeing programs.

Day 3   |  Beijing  (AB,L,DP)

Despite its urban facade, Beijing s illustrious past offers more sights and treasures than any other city in China. We embark on our journey through the city with a visit to the world-famous Tiananmen Square, which can hold upwards of one million people at one time. Pass by Chairman Mao s Mausoleum and cross the street to the Forbidden City, an immense palace complex constructed in the 15th century. Continue on to tour the dazzling imperial retreat, Summer Palace, then stop for photo ops at 2008 Olympic Sites, the Bird s Nest and Water Cube. Enjoy a feast of local delicacies tonight – a Peking Duck Banquet.

Day 4   |  Beijing  (AB,L,DH)

A bastion of pride and culture for the Chinese, the fabled Great Wall is at the top of every traveler s must-see list. Climb across its ancient stones and admire the sweeping views of the wall as it wriggles its way 4000 miles across China s northern borders. Continue on to visit the Sacred Way, a "divine road" leading to the imperial Ming Mausoleums resting at the foot of the picturesque Tianshou Mountains.

Day 5   |  Beijing-Xian  (AB,L,DH)

Before flying to Xian, visit the Temple of Heaven, constructed in 1420 for the emperors annual pilgrimages of prayer to the heavens. Constructed to be three times larger than the Forbidden City, it is considered a supreme achievement of traditional Chinese architecture.

Day 6   |  Xian  (AB,L,DS)

A central stronghold for the country s most significant ancient dynasties, Xian was also the starting point for the Silk Road. In modern times, Xian has enjoyed international acclaim for the discovery of Emperor Qin Shi Huang s standing army of Terra Cotta Solders. Survey the troops in fighting formation, then enjoy an authentic noodle-making demonstration during lunch. Continue on to visit Big Wild Goose Pagoda and the nation s largest surviving City Wall. This evening, we enjoy a delectable Imperial Dumpling Banquet followed by a Tang Dynasty Show.

Day 7   |  Xian-Chongqing-Yangtze River Cruise  (AB,L,D )

Fly to Chongqing, a picturesque mountain city situated on the steep hills overlooking the confluence of the Yangtze and Jialing Rivers. Upon arrival, we visit the Chongqing Zoo, home to over 230 species of rare animals, including the endangered giant and red panda. Head to the docks and board the Victoria Anna, the Yangtze s largest and most luxurious ship. Unwind in a sumptuous executive suite, then set sail in the evening for a majestic Yangtze adventure.

Day 8   |  Yangtze River Cruise  (B,L,D )

Disembark for our first shore excursion at the "ghost city" of Fengdu or the new relocation village at Shibaozhai or Wanzhou. Dating back to the Eastern Han Dynasty, Fengdu is filled with statues and temples of ghosts and demons, depicting the ancients imagination of Hell. Return to the ship for dinner and evening cruising.

Day 9   |  Yangtze River Cruise  (B,L,D )

Begin cruising through the stunning limestone cliffs known as the Three Gorges or "Sanxia" in Chinese. We first pass through Qutang Gorge, the shortest and narrowest of the three. Cruise through the 25-mile long Wu Gorge and admire the tranquil beauty of its verdant mountains and sheer cliffs. Disembark and board smaller vessels to access the impressive Lesser Gorges, then return aboard the ship to sail through Xiling Gorge, the longest and deepest of the Three Gorges. In the evening, we cruise through the Three Gorges Dam ship locks.

Day 10   |  Yangtze River Cruise-Yichang-Shanghai  (B,L,DH)

Arrive at Sandouping Village to survey the Three Gorges Dam site. Originally envisioned by Dr. Sun Yat-Sen in 1919, this massive engineering project aims to improve flood control, navigation and provide a new source of hydroelectric power for China. Return aboard and set sail to our final destination of Yichang, where we board a flight to Shanghai.

Day 11   |  Shanghai  (AB,L,DS)

Arrive in Shanghai, a bustling port city situated on the estuary of the Yangtze River. Our city tour begins with a visit to the esteemed classical garden, Yu Garden, where we can admire the marvelous vistas of traditional pavilions, ponds, and rock gardens. Continue on to stroll along the Bund, which offers sweeping views of the city s dazzling skyline and unique architecture. Drive by premiere shopping district, Nanjing Road, and return to the hotel. In the evening, enjoy dinner followed by a special Acrobatics Performance by the Shanghai Acrobatics Troupe.

Day 12   |  Shanghai-USA  (AB)

Our extraordinary China journey ends in Shanghai, where we are transferred to the airport to catch an international flight home.
