Day 3   |  Beijing  (AB, L)

Spend the day exploring Beijing s imperial monuments, beginning with the massive Forbidden City. The former seat of Ming and Qing emperors, this imposing palace complex is home to some of the finest imperial architecture in the country. Browse the collection of royal treasures in the Palace Museum and drive to the Summer Palace, a peaceful imperial retreat surrounded by graceful bridges, pagodas and a glistening lake. Finally, we also visit the Temple of Heaven, a religious site constructed in the 15th century where emperors performed ceremonies to ensure a plentiful harvest.

Day 4   |  Beijing  (AB, L)

Experience the incredible heritage of China s Great Wall as we trek across its ancient steps. Created piecemeal over a period of 2,000 years, the wall was built as a defense from the marauding tribes of the north. From atop the wall, enjoy the sweeping vistas of China s rugged mountains and valleys, then descend the wall and visit the Sacred Way. Follow this "divine way", lined with ethereal willows and intricate stone statues, and arrive at the Ming Tombs Museum. Return back to the city for photo stops at the famed 2008 Olympics venues, the Birds Nest and Water Cube.

Day 5   |  Beijing-Hangzhou  (AB, D)

The morning is free until we transfer to the airport to board our flight to Hangzhou. As the capital of eastern China s Zhejiang Province, Hangzhou is home to 2 million people and is a city of tremendous beauty. Enjoy a cruise of famed West Lake and do some fish watching at the Flower Pond. Visit the Winery Yard and the Lotus Pool, then end the day with a dinner of local specialty cuisine.

Day 6   |  Hangzhou-Suzhou  (AB, L)

Today we continue our journey via motorcoach to nearby Suzhou. Also known as the "Venice of the East," Suzhou is a breathtaking water village lined with canals, pagodas and over 100 classical gardens. Admire the ethereal beauty of Lingering Garden, Hanshan Temple, and visit a local silk factory to learn about the history and process of creating the delicate fabric. Drive by Tiger Hill and along the 2000 year old Grand Canal to view beautifully preserved homes and peaceful waterside scenery.

Day 7   |  Suzhou-Shanghai  (AB, L)

After breakfast we leave Suzhou by motorcoach bound for Shanghai. A booming metropolis situated on an estuary of the Yangtze River, Shanghai was once known as the "Pearl of the Orient" and is China s largest economic center and the world s most populous city. Our city tour includes a drive through the shopper s paradise Nanjing Road, a visit to the City God Temple Bazaar, and a stroll along the Bund, a waterfront boulevard which affords dazzling panoramas of Shanghai s skyline. End the day by attending an exciting performance of Chinese Acrobatics.

Day 8   |  Shanghai  (AB, L)

This morning we visit the spectacular Shanghai Museum, the world s finest showcase of ancient Chinese art and antiquities. Browse some of the 120,000 pieces of ancient Chinese bronze works, jades and paintings, then spend the rest of the day free to explore the city on our own.
