Day 1   |  Arrive-Beijing 

Arrive in Beijing and check in to our deluxe accommodations and relax for the remainder of the day.

Day 2   |  Beijing  (AB,L)

With a time-honored history of over 3000 years, Beijing boasts a wealth of cultural and historic treasures. Explore the city s rich imperial past on a city tour, beginning at the Forbidden City, so-called because it was off-limits to the world for over 500 years. Admire royal artifacts in the Palace Museum and cross the street to the famous Tiananmen Square, or "Gate of Heavenly Peace." Continue to the exquisite Summer Palace and enjoy the tranquil landscapes of elaborate bridges and pagodas surrounding Kunming Lake. Stop for photos at the 2008 Olympic Sites, Water Cube and Bird s Nest, and later this evening we may enjoy an optional Peking Duck Banquet at a popular restaurant.

Day 3   |  Beijing  (AB,L)

Venture to China s Great Wall – the Long Wall of Ten Thousand Li – one of China s most globally recognized icons. Walk along the ancient steps and admire the panoramic views of serene mountains and valleys, then head to the Sacred Way. Follow the path, lined with intricately carved marble statues, to the imperial tombs of 13 Ming emperors.

Day 4   |  Beijing  (AB)

Spend the day exploring the city on your own or take an optional pedicab (rickshaw) tour of Old Beijing s hutongs, or alleyways. Discover another side of Beijing as we weave through the labyrinth of alleys to a world far removed from the bustle of city life. Pass through the quiet corners of Beijing where remnants of traditional everyday life still linger and enjoy an intimate lunch at the courtyard home of a local family.

Day 5   |  Beijing-Xian  (AB,DP)

Before flying to Xian, we visit the Temple of Heaven, an enormous complex built in 1420 where emperors performed religious ceremonies. Previously known as the Temple of Heaven and Earth, the park is rounded (symbolizing Heaven) in the south and square (symbolizing Earth) in the north. Later in the day we fly to the historic city of Xian and enjoy an Imperial Dumpling dinner party.

Day 6   |  Xian  (AB,L,DS)

Regarded as one of the four ancient capitals of the world, Xian boasts a myriad of historical treasures and sites. Today we visit one of China s supreme treasures, the Terra-Cotta Warriors. Considered one of the greatest archaeological discoveries of the 20th century, the life-size soldiers stand in rank guarding the tomb of Emperor Qin Shih Huang. After touring the underground pits, we enjoy an authentic noodle-making demonstration during lunch. Continue on to visit the Ming Dynasty City Wall and Big Wild Goose Pagoda then return to the city for dinner followed by a colorful Tang Dynasty Show.

Day 7   |  Xian-Shanghai  (AB,DS)

Board a flight to Shanghai, a booming metropolis situated on an estuary of the Yangtze River. Once known as the "Pearl of the Orient," Shanghai is China s largest economic center and the world s most populous city. Today we embark on a city tour beginning with the renowned 16th-century classical garden, Yu Garden. In the evening we enjoy dinner followed by a dynamic Chinese Acrobatics Show.

Day 8   |  Shanghai  (AB,L)

This morning we drive through Nanjing Road, a shopper s paradise. Arrive at the Bund and stroll along the waterfront boulevard, admiring the dazzling views of Shanghai s skyline. Continue to visit the Shanghai Museum, the world s finest showcase of ancient Chinese art and antiquities. Peruse some of the 120,000 pieces of ancient Chinese bronze works, jades and paintings then spend the rest of the afternoon free to explore Shanghai on our own.

Our tour ends as we board our international fight leaving with fond memories of our mesmerizing China vacation.if we desire, we may extend our vaction with an optional extension to Taipei.
