Day 1   |  USA - Beijing, China 

We set off on our China expedition as we board our international flight bound for Beijing.

Day 2   |  Arrive in Beijing 

Welcome to Beijing, the capital of China. Meet a Ritz Tours guide in the arrivals hall and transfer to the hotel. The rest of the day is free at leisure to relax in the hotel or explore the city.

Day 3   |  Beijing  (AB, L, DP)

We begin our exploration of the city's extraordinary heritage at the world famous Tiananmen Square, named after its "Gate of Heavenly Peace" (Tiananmen), and followed by a visit to the Forbidden City, a massive palace complex constructed in the 15th century as a replica of the Purple Palace in Heaven. Continue our tour at the imperial Summer Palace and admire the elaborate pagodas and bridges that line the serene Kunming Lake. Next enjoy photo-op stops outside the 2008 Olympic Games’ symbolic buildings, the Bird’s Nest (National Stadium) and the Water Cube (National Aquatics Center). The day ends with an extraordinary dinner featuring the famous local delicacy-Peking Duck.

Day 4   |  Beijing  (AB, L, DH)

This morning we journey to China's best known attraction, the Great Wall of China. This sprawling defense system snakes its way 4000 miles across China's ever changing landscapes like an imperial dragon. Walk along the centuries old steps and admire the sweeping landscapes of rugged mountains and valleys in the horizon. Afterward we continue to the Sacred Way, a four-mile long "divine road" leading to the Ming Tomb Museum, which rests at the foot of the scenic Tianshou Mountain.

Day 5   |  Beijing - Xian  (AB, L, DH)

Before flying to Xian we visit the Temple of Heaven, a massive complex built in 1420 for the emperors' annual ceremonies of prayer. Formerly known as the Temple of Heaven and Earth, the park is regarded as a supreme achievement of traditional Chinese architecture. After the tour we board a short flight to historic Xian, an ancient city with over 3,100 years of history. Upon arrival transfer to the hotel and spend the afternoon free at leisure until we meet for dinner at the hotel.

Day 6   |  Xian  (AB, L, DS)

The "Eternal City" of Xian is home to one of the most sensational archaeological discoveries of the 20th century, the famed Terracotta Warriors and Horses. We walk around the underground pits and get our exclusive photograph taken with the Terracotta warriors in the backdrop. After lunch we continue our tour to the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, one of the best-preserved Buddhist temples in China. This evening following the Palace Banquet dinner, we attend a Tang Dynasty Performance.

Day 7   |  Xian - Guilin  (AB, L, D)

This morning we venture to the massive City Wall where we can enjoy an exciting bicycle ride. We attend an Imperial Dumpling Lunch, where includes a selection of dumplings filled with a variety of ingredients including meat, seafood and vegetables. After lunch, transfer to the airport for a short flight to Guilin, a lush city renowned for its remarkable natural scenery said to be “unmatched in Heaven.” Upon arrival we are met and transferred to hotel.

Day 8   |  Guilin - Yangshuo - Guilin  (AB, L, DH)

Get off to an early start with a relaxing cruise on the picturesque Li River. Along the way we can witness villagers and fishermen with their cormorants going about their daily lives on the shallow river. Enjoy lunch aboard the cruise and disembark at Yangshuo. Walk through this idyllic town and discover unique handicrafts at the local market and then drive back to Guilin by coach.

Day 9   |  Guilin - Shanghai  (AB, L)

Today we visit Reed Flute Cave, where we can witness the surreal atmosphere created by dramatic rock formations illuminated in colored lighting. After walking through the cave we continue to Elephant Trunk Hill, a long-standing symbol of Guilin that once appeared on Chinese banknotes. In the afternoon, board a short flight to cosmopolitan Shanghai, which is situated in the Yangtze River Delta. Upon arrival transfer to the 5-star hotel and spend rest of the day free at leisure.

Day 10   |  Shanghai  (AB, L, DS)

Our tour of this "Pearl of the Orient" begins with a visit to the 16th century classical Yu Garden, followed by a walk along Shanghai's famous waterfront boulevard, The Bund. After enjoying the dramatic skyline along the Huangpu River, we then board a coach and drive through the famous shopping district, Nanjing Road. Later we pay a visit to the spectacular Shanghai Museum, which boasts the world's finest collection of ancient Chinese art and antiquities. Founded in 1952, this museum now has a collection of over 120,000 pieces ancient Chinese art and antiquities. This evening we attend an exciting Chinese Acrobatics Performance following dinner.

Day 11   |  Shanghai  (AB, DP)

Enjoy the day free at leisure or join our half day Jewish Heritage Tour in the morning with no additional cost. Meet at hotel to visit Huoshan Park to see monument for Jewish Refugees, Ohel Moshe Synagogue and the Old Jewish Shanghai- where immigrants lived and their shops catered to the Jewish community. This evening meet for a Farewell Dinner Party.

Day 12   |  Shanghai - USA  (AB)

All too soon our China vacation comes to an end as we transfer to the airport for the homebound flight. You may also continue your journey with a two-night extension to the vibrant island of Hong Kong.
