Day 3   |  Hanoi  (AB, L, D)

Although the modern day capital of Vietnam, Hanoi still evokes the charm and mystery of its colonial past. Today we explore the Temple of Literature; an 11th century center for Confucian learning and a powerful symbol for the Vietnamese. Continue to visit the One Pillar Pagoda, Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and Ho Chi Minh’s Stilt House. Enjoy the morning free at leisure until we board our coach to the mysterious Halong Bay, a stunning UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Day 5   |  Halong Bay  (AB, L, D)

Board a traditional long-tail boat and cruise along the Halong Bay, past jagged limestone islands and nature-hewn karst formations. More than three thousand incredible islands rise from the waters of the Gulf of Tonkin, creating a breathtaking landscape evocative of traditional Vietnamese paintings. Enjoy lunch aboard and then zigzag our way through the maze of islands to explore their hidden grottoes and caves of stalagmites and incredible rock formations. Stop and explore Titov Island before sailing past floating villages and fisherman on our way back.

Day 6   |  Halong Bay - Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City  (AB, L)

Drive back to Hanoi via motor coach and catch a flight to Ho Chi Minh City. After checking into the hotel, the remainder of the day is spent free at leisure to explore the city or relax at the hotel.

Day 7   |  Ho Chi Minh City  (AB, L)

Welcome to Ho Chi Minh City, or Saigon, a lively metropolis where emerging modernity coexists with ancient pagodas and colonial buildings. Take an excursion to the Cu Chi Tunnels, an underground network that provided a stronghold close to the city. Stretching over 124 miles and dug by hand, this incredible network connected command posts, shelter and hospitals. Walk through the area and learn about the day-to-day life of the Vietcong and venture inside the tunnels for a firsthand experience. After exploring part of the tunnels, we can enjoy the remainder of the day free at leisure.

Day 8   |  Ho Chi Minh City - Siem Reap, Cambodia  (AB, D)

Embark on a full-day sightseeing tour, beginning with a visit to the War Remnants Museum to browse the extensive collection of weapons, tanks, photos and documentation from the Vietnam-American War. Afterwards, drive to the historic city center to visit the Emperor of Jade Pagoda, followed by visits to the Notre Dame Cathedral, the Central Post Office, the ornate City Hall and the Opera House. End the day’s sightseeing at Ben Thanh Market and take an afternoon flight to Siem Reap.

Day 9   |  Siem Reap  (AB, L)

Today we encounter the Cambodia’s crown jewel, the magnificent Angkor Wat (“Temple that is a City”). The most breathtaking and best-preserved of the Khmer temples, the temple complex is the world’s largest religious monument. Continue on to the fortified city of Angkor Thom and discover the Terrace of Elephants, the Terrace of the Leper Kings, the ruined Baphuon, the Royal Enclosure, and Phimeanakas. Admire the marvelous bas- relief murals in the Bayon and watch the sunset over the Cambodian countryside from atop an ancient Angkorian temple.

Day 10   |  Siem Reap  (AB, L, D)

Visit the most romantic of the temples of Angkor, Ta Prohm. Enveloped by jungle foliage, the temple was the only one left in its ruinous state by early archaeologists. This dynamic temple, a favorite for many, looks as it did when the first explorers discovered Angkor in the 19th century. Continue on to explore Ta Keo, Chau Say Tevoda, Roluos Group Temples and Les Chantiers Ecole, a vocational handicraft center aimed to preserve traditional Cambodian culture and artisanry. Take a tour of the stone sculpture and woodcarving workshops and watch the artisans at work.

Day 11   |  Siem Reap - Bangkok  (AB, DH)

Bid farewell to Siem Reap and fly to Bangkok, Thailand’s capital city. Upon arrival, visit the opulent Grand Palace, the former walled residence of the Thai Monarch and one of Thailand’s must-see sites. Walk through lavish buildings and courtyards to the Coronation Hall, and end the day with a stop at the Temple of the Emerald Buddha. The temple represents Thailand’s spiritual heart and houses a 26-inch jade Buddha, the country’s most venerated religious object. Enjoy dinner at hotel this evening.

Set off an excursion to the ancient city of Ayutthaya by motor coach. First stop at Bang Pa In for a visit to the exquisite Summer Palace. Continue drive to the world heritage city, Ayutthaya.
