Day 1   |  USA – Beijing, China 

Excitement fills the air as you embark on the vacation of a lifetime. The destination is China, the world’s most explosive economy and an ancient land of many wonders. Spend the night aboard as the widebody jetliner crosses the Pacific.

Day 2   |  Arrive in Beijing 

Touch down at Beijing, the capital city of China. Clear customs, retrieve your bags, then meet the Ritz Tours representative in the arrivals hall to board a motor coach transfer to your deluxe accommodations. What remains of the day is free at leisure to recover from jetlag or explore the city on your own.

Day 3   |  Beijing  (AB, L, DP)

Beijing is home to five UNESCO World Cultural Heritage sites and we’ll take you visit most of them during your stay. Begin your exploration of this wonderful city after breakfast. The first stop will be the incomparable Forbidden City*, so named because commoners were not allowed upon its. Immersed in royal splendor and opulence, the Forbidden City was home to the emperor and his royal court. Famed Tiananmen Square is right next door and the group takes a stroll through it. Continue on to the Summer Palace*, situated at Lake Kunming and surrounded by beautiful bridges and pagodas. Finish off the day’s sightseeing with a photo-stop at the arenas made famous by the 2008 Beijing Olympics: The Water Cube and the Bird’s Nest stadium. In the evening, chance a taste of a local specialty as you attend a Peking Duck Feast.

Day 4   |  Beijing  (AB, L)

This morning the group boards the motor coach for a quick drive northwards to the incomparable Great Wall* of China. Sprawling its way like a dragon thousands of miles across China’s northern frontier, the Great Wall stands as the nation’s identity and a symbol of pride. Construction spanned multiple dynasties and the Wall’s purpose was to keep the numerous nomadic tribal marauders out of China. Enjoy a stroll along the Great Wall’s ancient steps and take in the grand vistas afforded of China’s serene northern frontier. Later the group will walk the Sacred Way* . Return to the city where the rest of the day is at leisure.

Day 5   |  Beijing – Xian  (AB, DH)

The final sightseeing point before leaving Beijing is holy Temple of Heaven*, where Qing emperors came to pray to the heavens for a bountiful harvest. Recognized as “The Son of Heaven,” China’s emperors were deified and ruled under the “Mandate of Heaven.” Here at this sprawling temple complex was where the emperor communed and took part in religious ceremonies. At the conclusion of your visit, depart Beijing on a short flight bound for Xian, also a former capital city of China in the past. Dinner is served at the hotel after check-in.

Day 6   |  Xian  (AB, L, DS)

Situated in central China, Xian is the provincial capital of the Shaanxi Province and is home to 8.5M inhabitants. The main attraction of this 3100 city is surely the Terra Cotta Army* of China’s first emperor Qin Shi Huang. Standing in battle formation, the soldiers in full armor accompanied by horses and battle carriages were first unearthed accidentally by in 1974 by local farmers. After watching a brief introduction video, review the troops in each of the four main excavation pits. After lunch continue back to Xian to visit the ancient City Wall* and the nearby Big Wild Goose Pagoda*. Savor the local flavors for dinner at an Imperial Dumpling Banquet followed by evening entertainment attending the famed Tang Dynasty Show.

Day 7   |  Xian – Shanghai  (AB, DS)

Transfer to the airport for a flight bound for Shanghai, China’s most modern and populous city. Most agree that Shanghai stands as a symbol of the nation’s future, evidenced by the city’s tremendous economic growth and cosmopolitan way of life. During the motor coach ride into the city, it’s impossible not to notice Shanghai’s bustling streets and imposing skyline. Begin your exploration of Shanghai with a visit to the 16th century classical Ming dynasty era Yu Garden*, enjoying a leisurely stroll through the serene City God Temple Bazaar. Tonight be delighted and amazed at an exciting Chinese Acrobatics Show after dinner.

Day 8   |  Shanghai  (AB, L)

After breakfast at the hotel, continue the tour of Shanghai with a trip to its famous mile-long waterfront Bund. Futuristic skyscrapers of all shapes heights line this mile-long stretch of road along the western banks of the Huangpu River. The bus continues onwards along Nanjing Road, a favorite shopping spot for locals. Today’s group activities concludes with a visit to the world famous Shanghai Museum*, where you have the opportunity view thousands of pieces of ancient Chinese art arranged in different exhibition floors. What remains of the day is free for you to explore the city on your own.

Day 9   |  Shanghai – Suzhou Optional Tour  (AB, DP)

The entire day is free at your leisure with no organized activities until the evening. Spend your final full day in China doing some last minute shopping, relaxing at the luxury hotel, or perhaps by taking an optional day tour to nearby Suzhou. Known as the “Garden City” by virtue of its many wonderful gardens, Suzhou is known also as the “Venice of the East” for the numerous canals crisscrossing the town. The optional tour includes roundtrip transportation and visits to the Grand Canal, the Humble Administrator’s Garden, and also the Silk Factory for a silk-making demonstration. Tonight, the group will convene one final time for a Farewell Banquet.

Day 10   |  Shanghai  (AB)

Bid a fond farewell to China as you check out of the hotel and transfer to the airport to board your homebound international flight. Re-cross the expansive Pacific Ocean once again to arrive back in the United States.
