Day 1   |  USA – Beijing, China 

Anticipate the wonders of China as you board your flight to Beijing.

Day 2   |  Arrive in Beijing 

Your arrival at Beijing is greeted by your expert tour guide, who will assure your smooth transition to your hotel. There you can opt to explore the city on your own or unwind at the hotel.

Day 3   |  Beijing  (AB ,L ,DP )

You begin your exploration of China’s capital in the Forbidden City*, a palace so exclusive that historically none could enter without royal permission. From the historic city center, you venture out to the accommodating tranquility of the Summer Palace*, and then on to the Olympics sites where you’ll marvel at China’s ambitious buildings for the 2008 Olympics, the Bird’s Nest stadium and the Water Cube aquatics center. Your day’s journey concludes with the Peking Duck Banquet.

Day 4   |  Beijing  (AB ,L )

Journey to what is quite possibly the most recognizable icon on the earth, the Great Wall* of China. This imposing barrier has stood watch over China’s northern border for thousands of years. Take in its impressive views while contemplating the history of this amazing monument to human industry. Then, traverse the ornately decorated Sacred Way* .

Day 5   |  BeijingXian  (AB ,DH )

Described by UNESCO as a “masterpiece of architecture and landscape,” your stay in Beijing concludes at the Temple of Heaven*. This massive imperial altar was built to evoke the eternal connection between Heaven and Earth. As you continue to explore China’s wonders, a short flight takes you to the “Eternal City” of Xian, which has been remarkably preserved by its isolated location and fortified city wall.

Day 6   |  Xian  (AB ,L ,DS )

Xian’s prized treasure is the 8,000 strong Terra Cotta Army*, a military regiment of life-sized terra-cotta warriors and horses. This throng of manmade protectors stands guard over the tomb of China’s first emperor. You’ll walk among them, looking into their steely eyes and marveling at their eternal obligation. Then travel on to the Ming Dynasty City Wall*, the most intact city wall in China, and the Big Wild Goose Pagoda*. As the day ends, you settle in to enjoy the Imperial Dumpling Dinner and the Tang Dynasty Show.

Day 7   |  XianShanghai  (AB ,DS )

Board a flight to the world’s largest city, the incomparable Shanghai. Ambitious and futuristic, Shanghai stands at the pinnacle of 21st century progress and yet abounds with rich history. As you explore its landscape, you’ll discover the classical elegance of Yu Garden*. Commissioned during the Ming Dynasty, Yu Garden is also known as “the garden of happiness and peace.” Your day concludes with dinner and the soaring spectacle of the Chinese Acrobatics Show.

Day 8   |  Shanghai  (AB ,L )

Stroll the legendary Bund, China’s waterfront boulevard that follows alongside the Huangpu River. Then explore the world-class shopping district of Nanjing Road before concluding your city tour at the Shanghai Museum*. Well-known as the world’s finest collection of ancient Chinese art and relics, you’ll marvel at its 120,000-piece collection before going off on a free afternoon to explore Shanghai on your own.

Day 9   |  ShanghaiSuzhou Optional Tour  (AB ,DP )

Continue to enjoy the opportunity to freely explore Shanghai or join an optional tour of the gardens of Suzhou. This day trip includes a visit the Humble Administrator’s Garden and a cruise along the Grand Canal. Your outing to Suzhou concludes at a local silk factory, invoking the city’s history as an important hub of ancient China’s silk trade. At the end of the day, you and your fellow travelers will honor your last evening in Shanghai with a special dinner banquet.

Day 10   |  ShanghaiHong Kong  (AB )

A short flight takes you from Shanghai to the island city of Hong Kong, once a colony of Great Britain that was returned back to fold in 1997. Upon arrival transfer to the hotel and enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure.

Day 11   |  Hong Kong  (AB )

Your half-day tour of Hong Kong begins aboard the Victoria Peak tram*, where you are treated to indescribable views of the energetic Hong Kong Harbor. You’ll then descend into Hong Kong’s southern district to take in the scenic Repulse Bay and shop along the street stalls of Stanley Market. As a finale, you’ll visit the iconic Aberdeen Floating Community to witness the life of the junk-dwelling fishermen.

Day 12   |  Hong KongBeijing – USA  (AB )

Bid farewell to China as you conclude your journey and board your homebound flight to the US.
