Day 1   |  USA – Cairo, Egypt

Prepare to embark on your journey of discovery as you board your flight to the North African republic of Egypt, a region that’s stood at the crossroads of civilizations for four millennia.

Day 2   |  Arrive in Cairo

You touch down in fabled Cairo, the most populous city in all of Africa as well as in the entirety of the Arab World. Cairo is also known for its amazing spire-filled landscape, often referred to as the “city of a thousand minarets (mosque spires).” You’ll quickly immerse yourself in the city’s ancient wonders, modern urbanity, and warm-hearted citizens. Meet your representative at the arrivals hall and transfer to your accommodations. The remainder of the day is free at your leisure.

Day 3   |  Cairo  (B, L)

Travel west to the far edge of Cairo, home of the Pyramids of Giza. These 4,000-year-old monuments stand as a profound testament to the creative energy of humankind and the godlike power of the ancient pharaohs. The centerpiece of Giza is the Pyramid of Khufu, simply known as the Great Pyramid. Take your time to admire these colossal structures and the nearby mythical Sphinx before traveling to visit the Egyptian Museum, home to an extensive collection of precious Egyptian artifacts. You’ll conclude your tour with local landmarks: the Citadel of Saladin, the Mosque of Muhammad Ali, and the Khan El-Khalili, a major souk of the Middle East dating back to th 14th century.

Day 4   |  Cairo – LuxorNile River Cruise  (B, L, D)

Departing Cairo, you fly south to “the world’s greatest open air museum,” the city of Luxor. Begin your Nile River Cruise by boarding your cruise ship, the MS Tulip. A worldwide legend, the Nile River is commonly understood as the longest river on the planet. At over 4,100-miles in length, it stretches through ten countries on its way to its way to the Mediterranean Sea. Enjoy lunch on-board your ship before disembarking at the East Bank to see the elaborate sandstone ruins of Luxor Temple and the largest ancient religious site in the world, the Temple Complex of Karnak.

Day 5   |  Nile River Cruise - Esna  (B, L, D)

The Nile’s West Bank is the site of your day’s tour. Begin with the Colossi of Memnon. These twin statues are 60-foot tall representations of Amenhotep III, and are named after the Trojan War hero, Memnon. Your next destination is the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut, shrine to the sun god, Amon-Ra, and namesake to one of Egypt’s greatest rulers. Your final stop is the Valley of the Kings, an expansive burial ground for generations of Egyptian royalty. Re-board your ship for dinner, then set sail for Esna.

Day 6   |  Nile River Cruise - Edfu - Kom-Ombo  (B, L, D)

Continuing up river to the city of Edfu, you’ll discover the exquisitely preserved Temple of Horus. Built during the reign of Cleopatra VII, this structure stood as a monument to the ancient gods, Horus and Hathor. According to legend, Hathor, the goddess of love, would make an annual pilgrimage to Edfu to rejoin her husband Horus, the god of war. Enjoy lunch on-board the MS Tulip as you cruise to Kom-Ombo.

Day 7   |  Nile River Cruise - Aswan  (B, L, D)

The next stop on your Nile River Cruise is the busy market city of Aswan. Common folklore attributes Aswan as a city founded in honor of the goddess of childbirth. There could be no lovelier setting to bestow such a tribute, as Aswan is blessed with palm-lined islands and amber deserts. Explore the region on a felucca (a traditional wooden sailboat) sailing around the Elephantine Island, the Botanical Garden and the Agha Khan Mausoleum. Return to your cruise ship for dinner.

Day 8   |  Aswan - Cairo  (B, L)

Your morning is free at leisure, to unwind onboard the Tulip or visit Aswan on your own. You may also choose to join an optional air-excursion to the UNESCO recognized Nubian Monument of Abu Simbel. Here you’ll explore the Great Temple of Ramses II, site of four mammoth statues memorializing Egypt’s “greatest pharaoh.” In the afternoon, revisit Aswan to see the extraordinary engineering feat, the High Dam, serving Egypt through drought protection, irrigation and hydroelectric power generation. Next, visit the world’s largest known obelisk, the towering Unfinished Obelisk. Then admire the beauty of the Temple of Philae at Agilika Island. This striking monument to Isis was painstakingly transported from Philae to Agilika after being submerged by High Dam induced flooding. Your day’s journey concludes as you return to Cairo via air transport.

Day 9   |  Cairo  (B)

Today is yours, free at leisure. Explore Cairo at your own pace and interest. Or opt for an optional tour of Alexandria. Standing as Egypt’s largest seaport, the coastal city of Alexandria abounds with Hellenistic history. Your tour begins at the Roman Amphitheatre and includes visits to the iconic monolith, Pompey’s Pillar and the longstanding Mediterranean stronghold, the Citadel of Qaitbay.
