Our exploration of Eastern Europe introduces you to many of the nations that once comprised the old Eastern Bloc during the days of the Cold War. Included in our package are visits to Germany, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Hungary, and the Czech Republic. Embark on an adventure to experience the dynamic variety of sights and sounds that differ from what you’ve come to expect from the more economically developed Western European nations.

Day 1   |  USA – Frankfurt, Germany 

Begin your journey to the best of Eastern Europe on board your trans-Atlantic flight bound for Germany.

Day 2   |  Arrive in Frankfurt 

The global city of Frankfurt is your arrival point. An expert guide greets you upon deplaning to lead you on a city orientation tour. You’ll be introduced to Frankfurt, international powerhouse and financial center for continental Europe. After your brief tour, enjoy the remainder of the day free at leisure. You may choose to unwind at the hotel or explore the city at your own pace. For your consideration, an optional Rhine River Cruise is available.

Day 3   |  FrankfurtWurzburgMunich  (B ,DH )

Travel to the baroque town of Wurzburg, Germany. Famous for its picturesque vales and hillsides, this Franconian city hosts the northern starting point of the Romantic Road. Your city tour takes you to several sites of interest: the rebuilt St. Kilian Cathedral, the Old Main Bridge (Alte Mainbrucke), and City Hall. Take advantage of an exceptional photo opportunity at the beautifully restored Wurzburg Residenz. Then it’s on to the prosperous Bavarian capital of Munich, home of beautiful cathedrals and the annual 16-day beer festival, Oktoberfest. If time allows, you’ll embark on a city tour that includes: the Old Town Hall, the modest yet astounding Cathedral Church of Our Dear Lady, and the city’s main square of Marienplatz. Conclude your day at the German Pork Knuckle Dinner to enjoy this famous local specialty.

Day 4   |  MunichFussenSalzburg, Austria  (B )

If time limits precluded your Munich tour, today will begin with the sights of the Bavarian capital. Then you’ll travel to the southern-most stop on the Romantic Road, the enchanted fairytale city of Fussen. Here you’ll delight in the remarkable view of the beautifully iconic Neuschwanstein Castle*. Built by the reclusive King Ludwig II as a personal retreat, this castle on a hill has inspired the imaginations of generations and is the basis of Disneyland’s Sleeping Beauty Castle. From here it’s on to Mozart’s hometown of Salzburg.

Day 5   |  SalzburgLjubljana, Slovenia  (B ,DH )

Begin your tour of Salzburg at the Mirabell Gardens. The Garden is home to tranquil reflecting pools, the Hedge Theater, the Dwarf Garden and the iconic Mirabell Palace. Made famous by the timeless musical film, The Sound of Music, you can imagine Maria and the von Trapp children singing along its steps. Crossing the Salzach River, it’s on to the Old Town, where you are free to explore at your own pace and interest. Perhaps you’d enjoy the panoramic views from Hohensalzburg Fortress or, as a music buff, the Mozart Birthplace. Another possibility is the optional St. Gilgen and Lake Wolfgang Tour. Once you depart Salzburg, you’ll travel due south to the Slovenian capital of Ljubljana.

Day 6   |  LjubljanaPostojnaPlitvice, Croatia  (B ,L ,DH )

The “Much Loved City,” Ljubljana prides itself as a people-friendly town where the old world meets the new. Several sightseeing opportunities are afforded to you on the city orientation tour. See the medieval Ljubljana Castle, the Old Town City Hall, Robba Fountain, St. Nicholas Cathedral, the Main Square and the Tromostovje “Triple Bridge.” Traveling on in your coach, arrive in Postojna to visit the incredible Postojna Caves*. The world’s largest karst topography cave system, these caverns are known for their dramatic limestone stalagmites and stalactites. End your day in the Croatian city of Plitvice.

Day 7   |  Plitvice – Sixteen Lakes – Budapest, Hungary  (B ,D )

Explore the natural wonder of the Plitvice 16 Lakes National Park*. Recognized as an UNESCO World Heritage Site, the 16 interconnected lakes of the Park have been formed through thousands of years of natural processes. Between Mala Kapela Mountain and Pljesevica Mountain, numerous waterfalls, caves and dense forests populate this beautiful landscape. If flora and fauna are among your interests, you’ll be interested to know that a rich variety of both are found here, including recorded spottings of 126 bird species. You’ll depart this exceptional site for yet another place of world-class beauty, the Hungarian capital of Budapest. Upon arriving at this eastern edge of your journey, you’ll unwind and enjoy a Traditional Hungarian Dinner complete with musical entertainment.

Day 8   |  BudapestVienna, Austria  (B ,D )

Originally a collection of several districts, Budapest is so named because of its two original cities: Buda and Pest. Your sightseeing tour takes you to the heart of Hungarian history and culture. You’ll relish the occasion to see the Fisherman's Bastion*, Matthias Church*, the Parliament Building, and the Royal Palace of Buda. Then, embark on your Danube River Cruise* to sail this international waterway to the Pest District. Here you’ll ride aboard your motor coach to the end of Andrassy Avenue to visit Heroes’ Square. This proud monument stands in honor of the 9th century arrival of the early Hungarian tribes to this region. Leaving Hungary, you’ll travel to the Austrian city of Vienna with time available for your leisure. Feel free to stop into the city and enjoy its shops and sights. Your evening affords you the opportunity to attend the optional Mozart Concert.

Day 9   |  ViennaPrague, Czech Republic  (B ,DH )

A city tour of Vienna takes you to the expansive baroque splendor of Schonbrunn Palace*. Known as the “Beautiful Spring Palace,” Schonbrunn was the 18th century home of the Habsburg Monarchy. Its features include stately gardens, the Roman Ruins, numerous statues and the commemorative vista, Gloriette. A scenic drive allows you to see several Viennese landmarks: the Vienna Opera House, the circular Ringstrasse Boulevard, City Hall, Parliament Building, and the longstanding governing residence, Hofburg Palace. Travel on to the Czech city of Prague.

Day 10   |  Prague  (B ,D )

Since antiquity, Prague has stood as the capital of this region. Known for its gorgeous spire-filled skyline, this populous and popular city is home to innumerable attractions and experiences. Your journey finds you in the world’s largest coherent castle complex, Prague Castle*. You’ll explore this immense set of palaces, cathedrals and gardens. Taking particular notice of the Gothic St. Vitus Cathedral*, regarded as the most important church in the Czech Republic. Then you’ll cross the historic Charles Bridge into the Old Town Square to conclude your explorations with visits to the Astronomical Clock and the Jewish Quarter. Take the rest of the day free at leisure.

Day 11   |  PragueKarlovy VaryFrankfurt  (B ,DH )

The renowned Bohemian resort city of Karlovy Vary is your destination for the day. The ideal location to wind down your adventure, this quaint and colorful town is nestled within the foliage and hills of Western Bohemia. The legendary healing powers of Karlovy Vary’s hot springs have been purportedly treating the ailments of its visitors since before the town’s foundation. Enjoy a walking tour of the city before coming full circle and returning to Frankfurt.

Your journey through the many memorable sights and wonders of Eastern Europe concludes as you board your return flight.
