The geographic area of modern day France was originally colonized in antiquity by the Gauls, then taken over in the 4^th century AD by Germanic invaders known as the Franks, from whom the nation’s name was derived. France remained a monarchy until the French revolution in 1789 transformed it into a republic. Through its storied history, France possessed tremendous influence in shaping European politics, economy and culture. Climate

Visitors to France will find a large variance in temperatures dependent on which region is being visited. France is divided into four climactic zones but for the most part, France has temperate winters and mild summers. In Paris, the average annual temperature is 53F with 25.2 inches of rainfall.

Language

There are some regional languages and dialects but the official language used in France is French. Although many residents have studied English in high school, due to lack of practice, they are usually unable or unwilling to speak it.

Money
