Sun Moon Lake

The largest body of water in Taiwan, Sun Moon Lake is a popular honeymoon destination for locals. The area surrounding the lake is home to the Thao aboriginal tribe. The name of the lake comes from the east side resembling the sun and the west side resembling the moon.

Lalu Island This island is situated in the middle of Sun Moon Lake. It used to be larger but due to a dam construction, the water level increased flooding most of the island.
Wenwu Temple This is the largest temple on the northern bank of the lake. It was built after the later level rose, destroying some of the smaller temples in the area.
Ci-En Pagoda Build by Chiang Kai-shek in memory of his mother, the Ci-en Pagoda sits on a hill on the southeast side of the lake.
