Bo Sang Village

Bo Sang is a small rural village in the outskirts of Chiang Mai. Known for its craftsmanship, the Bo Sang villagers meticulously hand craft Thailand’s most famous umbrellas with brightly colored Sa paper.

Doi Suthep Temple
|
|
|
Doi Suthep Temple is one of the most important temples in Thailand. Built in 1386, the Doi Suthep Temple overlooks the city from its mountain throne. The site of the temple was chosen by placing a relic of Buddha on an elephant and letting the animal roam until it trumpeted, circled around, and kneeled down. Visitors must conquer the 300-step stairway before reaching the walled temple. The main attraction within the Doi Suthep Temple is the gold-covered giant Chedi surrounded by four golden umbrella-like shapes. The giant golden Chedi, otherwise known as the Holy Pagoda, houses important Buddhist relics. The temple also showcases a collection of murals depicting the life and teachings of Buddha.

Wat Chedi Luang

Wat Chedi Luang, a temple built in the 15th century, has withstood a major earthquake. Although the earthquake has reduced Wat Chedi Luang to half of its original size, the temple still remains as the tallest building in the town.

Wat Pra Singh

Wat Pra Singh is the temple that contains the most important statue of Buddha in Chiang Mai. The statue was originally sculpted in Sri Lanka and had traveled and stayed in many different locations prior to its final residence in Wat Pra Singh. The temple is covered with wall murals depicting ancient literatures.

Wat Chiang Mun

Wat Chiang Mun is reputed to be the oldest temple in Chiang Mai. The classic Lanna temple houses two Buddha statues: Pra Seh-Taang Kamaneeee and Phra Sila Khoa. Both statues are claimed to be at least 2,000 years old.
