Located on the west bank of the River Avon, in the heart of the Midlands, is the quaint market town of Stratford-Upon-Avon. This charming Tudor town is the birthplace of the world-famous playwright, William Shakespeare, and is now one of the most visited tourist attractions outside of London. Today, the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust manages five buildings associated with Britain’s beloved dramatist, including the home where Shakespeare was born.

The premiere attraction of Stratford-Upon-Avon is Shakespeare’s Birthplace, a half-timbered home where the famous dramatist was born in 1564. The house, originally belonging to William Shakespeare’s father John, has remained in the hands of Shakespeare’s descendents until the 19th century. For nearly three centuries, the house has been a hotspot for tourists and prominent writers including Charles Dickens, Walter Scott and Thomas Hardy have all left their marks.
