Xian

Experience a visit back in time to ancient Chinese civilization. During Xian’s 3100-year development, 13 dynasties have occupied the region; and its historical significance as a major trade center on the Silk Road is evident. It is no exaggeration to say that the thousand years of the rise and fall of the Chinese nation is all inscribed in Xian.

Terra Cotta Warriors
Xian China, the capital of Tang dynasty, is most well known for the Qin tomb and its Terracotta Warriors. The serendipitous discovery of the Terracotta Warriors by local farmers in 1974 has drawn countless visitors to Xian each year. Ranked as one of the most important archaeological discoveries, the Qin tomb and the Terracotta army of Xian China have marveled all that have seen it. This awesome terracotta legion dates back to 210BC and is a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is complete with ranks of soldiers and generals, chariots, war horses, and weapons with over 8000 unearthed and an unknown amount still undiscovered. The sight it offers is unparalleled by any other tourist attraction.

Big Wild Goose Pagoda
Another cultural heritage that Xian China has to offer is the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, a Buddhist temple built to preserve Buddhist relics. This pagoda is an emblem of the city and a masterpiece of Buddhist architects. Built in 652 A.D., and restored after being damaged by the earthquake of 1556, it is a 7-story brick pagoda constructed in Chinese architectural style. Surrounded by four arched doors, the pagoda is covered with sculptures showcasing the skills and genius of the architect. As Buddhism was the main religion of the Tang Dynasty, the Big Wild Goose Pagoda received notices from the Tang emperors and epitaphs sent by members of royalty to honor the pagoda. These rare relics are well preserved and can be clearly viewed by visitors.

Bell Tower and Drum Tower
Built in the 1380s, both towers are located within the city walls. In the old times, they were used to report the time: The Bell Tower housed a huge bell which was struck in the morning and the Drum Tower housed a huge drum which was struck in the evening.

Famen Temple
Simply an ordinary Buddhist temple until its pagoda collapsed as a result of heavy rains in 1981. While clearing the foundation of the pagoda, a 1000-year-old underground vault containing thousands of Buddhist relics and treasures was revealed. Among the relics is a finger bone of Buddha.
