York
The medieval city of York is loaded with a wealth of cultural and historical treasures. Enclosed by a circuit of 13th century walls, the city evokes visions of a time long before technology ruled the world. Like a living museum, York has retained many of the ancient timbered houses that line its narrow, cobbled streets (which cars are prohibited to drive on). In the heart of the city lies the Minster, one of the world’s most beautiful Gothic buildings and the crown jewel of Yorkshire.

York Minster
The pride of York and England’s largest medieval cathedral is the awe-inspiring York Minster. The largest Gothic cathedral north of the Alps, York Minster’s present building was built mainly from 1220-1480 and spans most of the crucial stages of Gothic architectural development. The minster houses the largest collection of medieval stained glass in Britain, and visitors to this ancient cathedral can see traces of every age from the Roman occupation of York to the present day.
