Bangkok

After breakfast, the adventure begins with a guided tour of Bangkok, known locally as the ‘City of Angels.` Navigate the bustling streets to your main port of call: the spectacular Grand Palace overlooking the Chao Phraya river. This vast complex was the official residence of Siam’s and Thailand’s royals between 1782 and 1925, and consists of majestic palaces, throne rooms, and courtyards. Marvel at the richly decorated pavilions and statue-guarded stairways as your guide reveals their stories and secrets, and visit the Temple of the Emerald Buddha— home to a small and sacred 15th-century jade Buddha statue. Check out other sights including the Marble Hall, and after a restaurant lunch, enjoy the afternoon free before sitting down to a delicious Thai set dinner at your hotel tonight.

Make the most of the photo opportunities as boats crammed with tropical fruits, spices, and foods glide by; and roam the stalls for handicrafts and street foods. Bangkok—Bang Pa In - Ayutthaya - Bangkok

Today, set off on a full-day trip to Ayutthaya and Bang Pa-in, two of Thailand’s historical highlights. Visit Bang Pa-in, a royal complex of exquisite gardens and pavilions used by Siam’s kings as a summer retreat. Stroll the ornamental lakes and lawns to admire the Thai-, Chinese-, and European-style buildings, including the stunning lake-stilted Aisawan Thiphya-art pavilion and manicured topiary bushes shaped like elephants and peacocks. Next, continue to UNESCO-listed Ayutthaya, an archaeological park of semi-crumbled stupas, temples, and monasteries that formed one of Asia’s greatest cities between the 14th and 18th centuries. View relics including the Yaichaimongkol and Mahathat Temples, and see the latter’s most photographed spot—a stone head of Buddha encased in tree roots. Finally, cruise back to Bangkok on a modern riverboat, enjoying an onboard buffet lunch as you sail on the Chao Phraya. This evening is free for you to enjoy at leisure.

Marvel at the vertical-garden Supertrees from the aerial walkway and delve into the Cloud Forest, a glass-framed world of mountain mists, lush vegetation, and a waterfall. Visit the 19th-century Chijmes complex, a delightful enclave of shops and eateries within a converted neoclassical chapel and school.
