Cape Town—Table Mountain and Winelands

Following breakfast, depart for Cape Town’s most iconic sight, Table Mountain. Rising majestically above the city, this natural monolith is its most recognizable landmark. After a transfer to the mountain base, which reveals awe-inspiring views of the high ridge framed by Lion’s Head and Devil’s Peak, board a cable car for an exhilarating ascent to the top (weather permitting). Marvel at the panoramic views over Cape Town and the Atlantic before your descent and a delicious lunch. Later, continue on an afternoon tour to South Africa’s Winelands. This mountain-framed region consists of rolling vineyards and orchards peppered with traditional wineries and handsome towns like Paarl and Stellenbosch. Absorb the scenery and enjoy tastings at the well-regarded Spice Route Winery, which is blessed with idyllic views of the Paarl Mountains and produces exceptional hand-crafted Swartland wines.  Back in Cape Town this evening, enjoy free time to experience the city’s culinary repertoire, perhaps dining at one of the multitude of tempting restaurants.

Cape Town—Cape Peninsula

Today brings another day of memorable sightseeing. After breakfast, set off on a half-day tour of the Cape Peninsula, a rugged finger of land jutting into the Atlantic south of Cape Town. Soak in the vistas on a drive along one of the world’s most spectacular coastal roads to Cape Point, a rocky ridge which rises steeply from the rolling Atlantic below. Ride the Cape Point funicular to see the Cape Point lighthouse, which presides over the point where the Atlantic meets the Indian Ocean. Following a sumptuous lobster lunch at a beachside restaurant, return to Cape Town’s Sea Point neighbourhood to explore Mojo Market, a hip indoor market stuffed with food stands, artisanal craft stalls, live music spots and bars—one of which serves South Africa’s biggest selection of locally made beverages, such as beers, ciders and gin, on tap. This evening is at your leisure, bringing another opportunity to dip into Cape Town’s exciting nightlife or cosmopolitan restaurant scene.

Cape Town—Hermanus

Your destination today is Hermanus, a historic coastal settlement south east of Cape Town. Drink in the mountain, forest and beach views on the drive to the town, known as one of the world’s best locations for whale watching. On arrival, board a whale-spotting cruise for the chance to see these magnificent mammals in their natural habitat. Watch for resident Bryde’s whales and migrating Southern Right whales (depending on season), all of which can be seen spouting and fluking—lifting their tails before diving. You may also glimpse humpbacks (depending on season) and other marine life, including dolphins, seals and the African penguin. After lunch, drive to Betty’s Bay, a seaside village strung between the rugged coast and Kogelberg Mountains. Take in this pretty holiday spot, which boasts botanical gardens and sandy beaches, and which is famed for its Stony Point Nature Reserve, a headland housing a colony of wild African penguins. Admire these beautiful flightless birds waddling on the rocks before returning to Cape Town and enjoying the evening as you wish.
